Get Irish potatoes and Alovera, peel the Alovera to extract it gel. Mix it with water and put the potatoes inside that mixed water and cover it for some minutes.

After that remove the potatoes (don't cut the potatoes yet) and put them inside prepared soil for nursing (some plastic filled with soil to nurse), wet it with that Alovera mixed water, cover it and placed them under shade for just 7 days. 

After 7day you will see them sprouting out and now divide (cut) them into two (you will have see the sprouts spot like yam) and use wood ash to cover the cut edge and go for your final plant like yam.

Use ash, you can rob on it. I used wood ash. Treat with fungicide or wood ash to prevent it from getting rotten when planted.

This is much different from sweet potatoes. You don't need to disturb yourself controlling the vines. Once planted it in your vegetable farm, they won't take over the farm.
