Projected Cost For A Breeding Production For Pig Farming (30 Sow and 3 boar) In Nigeria

Projected Cost For A Breeding Production For Pig Farming (30 Sow and 3 boar) In Nigeria

* Cost of feeding for 1 year:
N1,242,000

* Other running costs:  N220,000

Total projected cost= N1,462,000

1. Projected Revenue For A Breeding Production

PROJECTION:

* Average number of piglets reared/sow/litter is 8.

* Sow Productivity Index (SPI) - 1.7

* Reared piglets/sow/year is 8 x 1.7 = 13.6 piglets.

Total number of weaners expected per year = 13.6 x 30 = 408 weaners

- Sales price per weaner = N5,000

EXPECTED INCOME
At N5,000 per weaner
408 weaners gives  -  408 x N5,000 = N2,040,000

EXPECTED PROFITS
Total income – Total cost of production
= N2,040,000 – N1,462,000 = N578,000

2i. Projected Cost For A Fattening Production (30 pigs).

* Stocking cost @ N5000=N5,000x30= N150,000

Total feeding cost-N256,500 (average of N8,550/pig).

* Other running cost-N120,000

Total cost = N376,500

2ii. Projected Revenue For A Fattening Production.

PRODUCTION ASSUMPTIONS

* Mortality (5%) – 29 pigs will be available for sales

* Target weight – 80kg

* Price/kg live weight of fattened pig – N300/kg

EXPECTED REVENUE
= 29 X 80 X N290
= N672,800:00

EXPECTED INCOME
Total income – Total cost of production
= N672,800 – N376,500 = N296,300
