Understanding Spontaneous Germination: Why Fruits Grow Where Not Planted and the Science Behind It.

This process is known as "Dispersal of Fruits and Seeds". When a tree or crop is matured and the fruits and seeds are ripen, they tend to fall to the ground, mostly closer to the parent plants (main). These fruits and seeds can fall on the ground in large quantity. However, most of them perish, some are eating by animals, while others may fall on grounds occupied or unfavourable to the particular fruits and seeds. If conditions are favourable, the seeds germinate and grows. This require them fallen on the right soil with nitrites. Climates can also a factor. 

The common agents that brings about dispersal of fruits and seeds are wind and animals


WIND DISPERSAL

Fruits and seeds dispersed by the wind are usually very small light, such as cotton seeds. They may also have wings and hairs which enable them to float easily and allow them to be carried away around by wind. Fruits and seeds dispersed by wind can land on any ground. Some can drop on sterile or unsuitable ground, or may be carried out to the sea. They are so light, that they can be carried away by only a slight breeze. 


ANIMAL DISPERSAL METHOD

Birds and mammals, including man, help in the dispersal of some fruits and seeds. Fleshy, brightly coloured fruits are especially attracted to animals. Examples of such fruits are Mango, Papaya (pawpaw), Rambutan and Guava. They may be eaten by man, birds, bats, monkeys, squirrels or other animals. 

The hard seeds are thrown away or swallowed. In the alimentary canal, they can remain undigested because each seed is either covered by a slimy, impermeable layer or has a tough woody seed coat. The seeds are then passed out unharmed in the faeces. 

As birds usually cover great distances during flight, these seeds get deposited in several different places. They may fall to the ground or in between branches of large trees and begin to germinate. 

Animals may also wander over great distances, dispersing seeds as they do so. Some seeds are very sticky and adhere easily to the beaks of birds which eat the fruits. These birds may clean their beaks on the trucks of trees, and leave the seeds there. The seeds soon germinate.

Man plays an important part in fruits and seeds dispersal. The original home of rubber was South America, but today, rubber flourishes in Malaysia and Indonesia. This is because man introduced it into these regions. Sometimes, weeds are accidentally introduced with important crop plants.
