Is Wood Or Timber Export Still Banned Or Already Being Lifted In Nigeria?

Wood timber export has been truly banned and not yet being lifted by the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, this was confirmed by the Nigerian shippers council and currently listed on their official website as one of the major Nigeria products strictly under ban.

In view of this development, dealing with items under export prohibition list will be as good as violating the existing laws of the land, hence, all the exporters and the prospective exporters must adhere to this, as fails may result into very serious financial loss. 

However, items placed under prohibition were considering deemed fit due to the following reasons:

1. Preservation of our forest/timber reserves and our heritage as it were.

2. Value added consideration.

3. As preservation and protection for domestic processors and users.

4. Prohibition under food items is to ensure domestic food security.

On the part of the exporters, they should be current with the trends in their choice of export business career. It is not all about business but how well it is and what the law says at a given particular time. As a well informed exporter, constant attention is required and make sure choice of export goods are within the range of the approved export products.
